FIRED BOC

My friend got fired from Chronic Tacos, a Mexican restaurant that is in my local area. He was fired because he didn't mop one night out of the 5 months he worked there and was immediately dismissed and payed up to date for the hours he had achieved. He was not depressed though, my friend Max went ahead and got a job at the Rio hotel and Casino at a pretzel shop and is still working there to this day. Not only is he focused and determined he learned no matter how well something is going for him he cant slack off not even one day of the week, and that he needs to be on top of his responsibilities and have his game face on during the job. I can see where the company came from when firing my friend because they are paying him to do a job if the job requirements are not met why pay someone to dick around and do what there not supposed to do, at the same time i think a warning would of been appropriate, but it is a job and business is business and they company is trying to be successful and make money at times like these everything needs to be legit and professional. I believe everything happens for a reason and he was destined for a new job and god made that path distinct for him. The pretzel place is fit for him he is a heavier set guy and so he can enjoy his pretzels and making pretzel at the same time and get paid for him to enjoy one of things he loves most in life.

week 9 EOC

If I wanted to work for a company and I had to join the union to get the job I desired then so be it. The union is made to serve the people and make our world go round, and if the job I desired meant that I would have to go through the union to get it then why wouldn't I go through the union? You pay monthly to be a member of the union but at the same time you make enough money that there monthly fees would not be severe to other bills at hand. If they called strike over an issue I did not agree with i would support the strike to go ahead and keep my job and position. If i went against the strike and the strike made there word out there i would be replaced for not supporting it.

week 9 BOC

In the United States unionism in some form is almost as old as the nation itself. Crafts that formed local unions in the late 18th and early 19th cent. included printers, carpenters, tailors, and weavers. Their chief purpose was to keep up craft standards and to prevent employers from hiring untrained workers and importing foreign labor. From 1806 there were numerous prosecutions by employers of unions as combinations in restraint of trade. The early 1830s, a period of industrial prosperity and inflation, was a time of union development; however, the financial Panic of 1837 halted this growth. After the Civil War, in 1866, the National Labor Union was formed; it had such objectives as the abolition of convict labor, the establishment of the eight-hour workday, and the restriction of immigration, but it collapsed with its entry into politics in 1872.

In the text above it says that the union is as old as the nation itself and without the union i believe that the united states would not be put together so well and understanding of a system would be lost. The union is a system that was made to make our society go round. Everyone has a responsibility and each different responsibility helps as others do their jobs and everyone is taken care of and is well linked in this sysytem.

Week 7 EOC 15 steps of evaluation

  Evaluate Experience
What did you learn? I learned how to get in the comfort zone while asking someone about how they work and their work techniques. I Noticed the more comfortable the environment the more talkative and better responses you will get.
What caught you by surprise? What caught me in surprise is how perfect the person I interviewed is. I noticed that there are really people out there motivated for themselves.
How prepared were you? I was not prepared at all. Coming into class today I had no idea we would be interviewing each other.
Evaluate the individual members of your group. Lana is good with attendance and asking questions and Rebecca is a great communicator also very assertive.
By name, how did they participate? Lana and Rebecca both participated very well in this evaluation. Both were very cooperative.
Do you think they (by name) could be viable candidates for a real job? Explain. Lana would be good for a real job, she seems determined and focused, as for Rebecca she to is a viable candidate for a real job she to is a focused individual.
Would you want them to represent your school in a job interview situation as a graduate of The Art Institute? Yes I would love them to go ahead and attend a job interview to show people what our school is about and how determined and focused everyone here is.

  •     How could this experience be improved for you? For the class? As of now I could not say because everything went so smooth and it was clear and easygoing.

week 6 Steps in Job Instruction Training

The consolidate did not follow the steps because he hired a divorced women who worked for her first time and could not control a copying machine “Try Out the Performance” Managing Hospitality and Resources fifth edition page 203 Training and Development. In order to have someone fulfill a job you need to follow step 3 of the Steps in Job Instruction Training.  Step 4 is very important as well to follow up and see how the newly hired employee performs his/her job and demonstrates full knowledge of the job at hand. Once an employee is fully knowledgeable let them work on his or her own and do the job because after all mentoring is done that is what is expected. Companies offer training programs before they are hired so there is no mentoring just seminars and lectures, it is proven to be more productive and less stressful on the company and its employees. Of course all employees strive for their paycheck but they will not receive what they deserve if they are not properly trained and execute what they have been taught as their duty to perform their job the company directs them to. One can work at the same job for years or possibly do what the company likes and gets recognized and gets promoted to something new it may be better it may be different but there is  a higher pay and substantial change for the good of the company, that is why there are jobs to make businesses and corporations exceed to their exponential growth.

week 5 Stolen Valor

I feel that in the Stolen Valor if one is to go ahead and falsify information about serving our America one should serve in jail accommodating the reason of falsification. The women and men of the armed forces risk there lives everyday for serving America and the freedom and safety of the citizens, to go ahead and use that to get leverage of a job opportunity or a loan from the bank is unjust and flat out not right. I believe it is disrespectful and rude to falsify and lie about that.
I think that the man who lied and said he was a veteran and had lied about being a veteran should be fired and the company did a huge mess up in preferring veterans for this particular case. The company took a risk because if they are going to go ahead and prefer veterans they should have a department to make sure they qualify to be what the person says they were such as branch unit division if they were a captain or what ever the case may be. Now the company has a law suite all because they did not look into the person’s background they had hired.

Week 2 EOC - This Charming Man

imgres.jpg
mgres)This romantic comedy the underling point being made is that immigration takes our women, job opportunity, and future for us as we know it. If our country can barely support us Americans how can we support other people coming illegally? We cannot support illegal immigrants. Lars from the short film romantic comedy dressed up as a Muslim to get a Danish job and he could not find one because he substituted a Muslim that if not of shown up to his lovers class that she taught English in then she would loose her job and that would make Lars sad, so he dresses up to pretend he is someone who he is not and doesn't know of for the sake of his lover Ida to not loose her job. Because Lars could not get a job through pretending he is Muslim he uses his Danish name "Lars" and gets on almost instantly.

This short term film is relevant to the times we are going through now with immigration, racism, and frustration of the sore subject but myself personally I know of many people who view this subject differently and there are different views out there but for the sake of our country this needs to stop and be delt with as a government issue and take it into higher authorities and not to be so publicized to everyone gets the idea of hating immigrants. They come here to have a better life and it doesn’t help if we have a chip on our shoulder to ruin another’s mind set and self esteem Americans are good people and need to step up to the plate and show how dominate we are. This is the perfect opportunity to Everyone that America has a gentle and hospitality side just as our industries and the way we do things have none other than our peoples significance to the outcome.

"The U Visa and How It Can Protect Workers.  Sometimes employer abuse of workers rises to the level of being criminal.  Depending on the crime committed and other factors, victim workers may be eligible for a U nonimmigrant visa, which provides important relief to those who fear losing their existing lawful immigration status through employer retaliation or who are targeted for abuse because they lack lawful status."http://www.nilc.org/immsemplymnt/emprights/index.htm

Week 2 EOC - Zippy Airline Catering

(1.)The company made significant redesigns for making the conveyor belt a part of the food packaging part of the Zippy Airline. (2.)It is more efficient for making food trays, and is more convenient. By adding this conveyor belt the employees were assigned a single task this made it so that the preparation process would be simple and efficient. I think as a result of this redesign it is a possibility that half of the employees may be fired, because of the machinery that replaced jobs.
(3.)Before making any kind of change to Zippy Airline I would write a letter to inform employees that the Airline of Zippy will be making changes and we may let some of our employees go due to our new machinery and development of the company. If one were to go ahead and not write a letter before substantial change to air out to all of the employees it would cause mayhem and possible riots would occur and take action by getting authorities involved and eventually not long after that our company would be publicized through out the media and disbursed all over the country and would definitely not look good on my part of running a company, therefore it is important to write a letter of substantial change.

Week 1 EOC Old Timer Makes Waves

In the Case Study "Old-Timer Makes Waves" Sally Fender is on the verge of being fired and writes a letter to the owner of the hotel a letter of her being harassed and states in that letter she will get a lawyer if necessary, "I'd hate to hire a lawyer when I've been loyal to the company for 20 years." A major problem with Sally's defense is that is her performance review after management change, Sally started at 5 out of 5 but after each management change it dropped in a decline decimal place by decimal place of her review. Sally plays the sympathy card in her letter by complaining about all of the things that have been up to par for the last several years at once she should have went through the system of management as soon as an incident occurred, “He’s constantly watching me and writing up everything I do.” This states an opinion of perception f the problem. Sally’s length of service doesn’t matter in this case of business she’s a slacker black and white. The management team needs to remember this is a business and not a charity case therefore proceed and perform the appropriate action and replace Sally and relief the hotel company of a nuisance. At the same time to be in Sally’s shoes I wouldn’t want to get fired but because of past performance and the decline of work effort it is the best thing to do. Hopefully Sally can cut her loses and get another job.

Week 1 - EOC My Voice

As a young and intrigued chef I have developed a second nature for food. Making enchiladas and tequitos are my favorite things to make. My favorite Mexican dish to eat is fajitas. I am knowledgeable and have worked in the food industry for three years under my father, an entrepreneur chef that has a catering business. Working at a young age I have learned more people and professional skills I am now realizing I have already achieved. Retail and design is not for me, I am humbled in a kitchen and stress doesn’t seem to change my views or feelings about this passion I have obtained. I grew up around food and will continue to contribute to food and make it a life style that I can be happy with for the rest of my life I see future in the food industry and I will work hard to make my dream come true. I love catering, it brings out the side of me that shows hospitality and that makes me happy enough. When you get paid for doing something you love it is a double positive. I believe I will not leave the food industry. With the support of my family and my achievements thus far I will be successful and prosper.
